I'm an avid user of the plugin that allows to crosspost Hubzilla messages to Twitter (named just
twitter in the repository), but I've noticed that it has a few limitations that cause messages to come across wrong on the other side, in particular:
- Messages that include links sometimes include a
^# symbol, which is added on the Hubzilla side to add the link to the personal bookmarks folder, instead of stripping it. I'm not sure if this is an interference with the
bookmarker plugin, which reformats said symbol to a proper icon, or if it's that the
twitter plugin just hadn't covered that case.
- Messages that include a link that is rendered as a preview on Hubzilla may completely omit the URL and post only the text of the preview. Again, I'm unsure if this is caused as a side effect of enabling another plugin,
noembed in this case, or if the case isn't covered by the
twitter plugin either.
- The plugin still defaults to 140 characters as the maximum length of the message before being truncated with an URL shortener, which has since been raised to 280 characters. This should be easy to fix, as it only requires replacing the value of a variable, but makes me think that the
twitter plugin hasn't been updated in a long time. Maybe I should start polishing my PHP to start maintaining it...
